For Br. Mowlid Khalif, working for the sake of Allah is a calling he takes seriously.

Br. Mowlid was the first student to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree from Mishkah University in 2010 and is currently pursuing his masters. He was recently hired as an Imam at Jamaat Ibad ar Rahman in Durham, North Carolina. The masjid serves the largest Muslim community in the area.

He has since immersed himself in his work and says he is enjoying it immensely.

“Without knowledge you cannot be an Imam and Mishkah provided the knowledge to become an Imam,” Br Mowlid says “Everything I have learned in Mishkah University has been useful in my work. Without it I would have not been able to fulfill my duty as an Imam.”

Among his many duties, he teaches several classes including tafsir ul quran, tajweed and morality in the Quran.

He encourages the youth to seriously consider the value of Islamic education especially at a time when Islam faces many challenges in the West.

“In the present crisis, we Muslims need to have qualified imams who can present Islam in a good manner hence Mishkah university is the right place to start with,” said Imam Mowlid.

Imam Mowlid himself remains committed to increasing his own knowledge as he continues his graduate studies at Mishkah. We pray for his continued success and ask Allah to make his work in Durham fruitful and beneficial to the community.

Dr. Hatem al Haj’s new book on the Fiqh of Worship is now available in the U.S. The book is a commentary of the seminal work by Sh. Ibn Qudamah al Maqdisi, “Umdat al Fiqh”. It covers all aspects of the jurisprudence of worship including rulings on purification, prayer, zakat, fasting pilgrimage, and funerals.

While “Umdat al Fiqh” primarily encompasses rulings according to the Hanbali school of thought, Dr Hatem expands on this work by including opinions from other schools of Islamic thought giving readers a more extensive perspective of the rulings on worship.

“Worship, when devoutly observed and correctly performed, is the ultimate human function for which people were created, and the only way to attain the ultimate success, being the pleasure of our Lord,” says Dr. Hatem al-Haj, who is Mishkah University’s interim dean.

The books new layout includes a section for notes on each page, as well as diagrams and graphics that make the subject easier to grasp through visual representation. The book will not only benefit students enrolled in Fiqh of Worship 1 and 2, but any Muslim who wishes to augment their understanding on the intricacies of worship, inshaAllah.

In addition, the branch held its first seminar of 2012 on Feb. 11 and 12th. More than 40 students attended “Money Matters: Islamic Finance 101″ with Dr. Salah asSawy. Many expressed great satisfaction with the program and the opportunity to learn such a critical topic from a well-versed instructor. Alhamdulillah.

Sh.Salah.Welcome

Alhamdulillah, Sh. Haroon Baqai will be teaching Tajweed II for the first time in the Spring semester. The class will focus mainly on the recitation and the practical application of Tajweed rules. Students will be required to memorize the 29th Juz and will meet twice weekly to practice their recitation.

Sh. Haroon, who has an ijazah in the recitation of the Quran in the mode of Hafs an Asim, has also written a book on the subject titled “Let’s Beautify Our Recitation: A Complete Handbook of Tajweed.”
